How to Talk About Your Work Without Overselling It

It’s tempting to describe every project as a total transformation with dramatic results, especially in a portfolio or a pitch. Most of the time, that framing doesn’t hold up to a single follow-up question.

A more durable approach is to be specific instead of dramatic: what the actual problem was, what you changed, and what measurably happened afterward. It’s less flashy in the moment, but it holds up far better under scrutiny.

Confident and honest aren’t opposites — the best project talks are both at once.
